A car lift, an RV, or a tall trailer needs taller sidewalls and bigger doors. Decide before the posts are set, because raising a roofline after the fact is rarely practical or cheap.

Plan the Concrete From the Start

Unlike a storage barn, a garage or shop almost always wants a slab. Thickness and reinforcement depend on vehicle weight and whether you will run a lift, so the floor is part of the design, not an afterthought.

Insulation and Climate Control

A year-round shop needs insulation and often an interior liner; a cold storage garage does not. This single choice can move the budget more than square footage does, so decide how you will use the space before you quote it.
